The 2023 edition of the Race of Champions is approaching, and Mattias Ekström will be there. The Swede has already won the race three times: in 2006 (France), 2007 (UK) and 2009 (China). If he were to add a fourth coronation this season, the driver would be co-holder of the victory record alongside the French Sébastien Loeb and Didier Auriol.

A title that the double champion of DTM (in 2004 and 2007) could be at home in Sweden, the country hosting the Race of Champions for the second consecutive year. On familiar ground, Mattias Ekström will team up with five-time FIA World Rallycross champion, Johan Kristoffersson. A 100% Swedish pair which will wear the colors of the nation for the first time… Or almost. In 2005, Ekström won the team title in a duet with the Danish Tom Kristensen, representing Scandinavia. A Scandinavia victorious again in 2014 with Kristoffersson associated with Olivier Solsberg, and with Kristensen in 2019 during the only Mexican edition of the competition.
To win, they will have to gain an advantage over their neighbors (Kristensen and Felix Rosenqvist for the Nordic team, Petter and Olivier Solsberg for Norway). But also Sébastien Loeb in search of a fifth victory, or the quadruple world champion of Formula 1 Sebastian Vettel. See you on January 28 and 29 in Pitea, Sweden, to see the champions compete on the track.
