Ekström discovering the Dakar with X-Raid
Great first. For this Dakar 2021, X-Raid has decided to look beyond the T1 category. During this new edition, the German team will discover T3. Associated with Yamaha, it intends to enter two prototypes based on the SSV (Side by Side) YXZ1000R from the Japanese firm.
To carry out this mission, X-Raid has decided to entrust one of its two Yamaha YXZ1000R to the double champion of rallycross Mattias Ekstrom. In Saudi Arabia, the Swede will be guided by his compatriot Emil Bergkvist.
« Participating in the Dakar has always been a dream for us, explains the main person concerned. I have participated in so many races during my career. What better way to thank Sven (Quandt, the team director) who I have known for around 20 years. We finally managed to raise the necessary budget to engage in SxS (SSV) (…) We can't wait to start the Dakar 2021. It will also be ideal preparation for my participation in the Extreme E (the first round of the season takes place in Saudi Arabia). I've never driven on sand or dunes before ».
Mattias Ekström will be able to test the YXZ1000R prototype during the Baja Hall, a competition also rally-raid before the Dakar (December 11 and 12). The second SSV of X-Raid will be entrusted to Camelia Liparoti and Annett Fischer.
