Enzo Ide: “Mattias Ekström convinced me to come to World RX”

How do you feel ?

Participating in the entire 2021 season makes me very happy. I already wanted to do it last year, but an inconvenience made my commitment impossible. This year, everything has been sorted. I will therefore compete in the entirety of the RallyX Nordic (Scandinavian championship. Ed.) and the world championship.

What assessment do you draw from your first attempts?

My four days of testing in Sweden went very well. I rode in Strängnäs, Arvika and Höljes. I feel confident in the car (Audi S1 EKS RX Quattro. Ed.) and with the team. They know very well what they are doing, they know me, just like the car. This bodes well. I trained for starts and was also able to ride in all types of conditions: dry, rain and even snow. My times were good, now we have to confirm on track.

How did you approach this challenge?

Like in GT in the past. I'm learning in mid-field teams, then once I start to feel good, I look to move to a team at the top of the table. This is how you learn quickly. I have been able to do a few races in recent years (notably at JC Raceteknik. Editor's note) and here I am signed up for the year. When you only play one or two rounds, you are careful, be careful not to take out your teammate who is fighting for the title... The approach is not the same as when you play the entire season.

Did Mattias Ekström influence your choice?

I talked a lot with him, asked him if it wasn't more judicious to compete in the French, English and European championships, but he convinced me to do the World Championship. He told me that there were only good drivers in World RX and that fighting with the best would help me learn faster.

What are your expectations ?

The main thing is to learn, to gain experience. I also want to see if there is a certain respect between the drivers like I knew in GT, to understand how things work in the race, how to overtake or defend my position. There is no result target at the moment. We'll see that after two or three races.

Why did you choose to also compete in the RallyX Nordic?

Because I will have every opportunity to compete in three races before the start of the World RX season. I have no goal there other than to gain experience.
