Fabrice Reicher (TTE): “This crisis will force certain disciplines to review their approach”

In your opinion, how will the resumption of competition in France take place?

We must take all the necessary precautions in the face of this unprecedented crisis, some points of which are reminiscent of the oil crisis of 1973. We are a “passion” sport that participants find difficult not to practice. This season will be made up of bits and pieces, but we should start on a healthier basis in 2021.

What can we do to interest the public again?

It will be difficult to get people back on the circuits. Motorsport is not in the odor of sanctity in the media, but a large part of the population remains interested. She just stays silent and doesn't make herself known.

Traveling to circuits is also no longer up to date, with people preferring to follow events on the Internet. Urban races can be a solution, but they must correspond to current policies.

The Nürburgring still exists. For what ? Because it makes it possible to bring an entire region to life with a real center of activity, and for people to surpass themselves by taking up a real challenge. Germans are very attached to their cars, but they are pragmatic. This is what is missing in France.

What solutions must be adopted to keep motorsport afloat?

There is no secret: cost control. This could involve electricity or – I believe in it more – hydrogen, which would offer a lower cost price. I remain optimistic about the future because the bottle doesn't matter, as long as you get drunk.

A driver in a Clio 3 can have a lot of fun, as long as he has other competitors to face. This crisis will force certain disciplines to review their approach. It is sport as a whole that will have to reinvent itself, not just motorsport. The days of unlimited money are over.
