Fromont ends seven years of drought in the Africa Eco Race

Yves Fromont was starting to find the time long. It had been seven years since the Lyon lawyer had won a stage in the Africa Eco Race. An error duly made up for by a success during the eighth day of the 2019 edition, contested between Chami and Amodjar (Mauritania).

The special, 445,12 km long, was won by the Tarek buggy despite a crash of around twenty minutes. “It’s still nicer than going 160 km/h and finding yourself 10 minutes from each other. There at least there is a challenge.

It's the rally-raid in all its splendor! You have to spit yourself in your loincloths, you have to have courage and work well with your co-pilot (Paul Vidal), which was the case today”, the winner is satisfied.

In the general classification, Yves Fromont returns 1h24 behind Jean-Pierre Strugo and François Borsotto (Optimus MD), who only conceded 4’21” in the desert of Mauritania. With such a lead, the final victory is getting a little closer for the French duo.

The spectacular crash of the two strong men of the event, Dominique Laure and Sergey Kuprianov (Optimus MD) at the finish of the seventh stage allows outsiders to stand out. This is the case of the small SSV Can-Am of Bruno Fretin and Willy Charbonnier, fourth almost a quarter of an hour behind. The MAN truck from Belgian Noël Essers completes the top 5.

Thursday, the ninth stage of this Africa Eco Race 2019 will take the caravan to the middle of the Mauritanian desert around Amodjar over 482,82 km (special of 374,37 km).
