Gilbert Sabine has died

Gilbert Sabine, father of Thierry, has died. The world of rally raids and motorsport pays tribute to the man who continued the Dakar adventure after the death of his son.

Gilbert Sabine died on December 31 at the age of 97. A dental surgeon by profession, he decided to continue the work of his son Thierry, who died in the tragic helicopter accident in Mali during the 1986 Dakar.

Until 1993, Gilbert Sabine will preside over the destiny of the event, at a time when the big brands are turning towards the African deserts, Peugeot , then Citroën, and Mitsubishi in the lead. The adventure lasted until the acquisition of Thierry Sabine Organization by the Amaury group in 1993.
