J.-B. Dubourg: “It would have been complicated without the help of Renault”

Going from thermal to electric is a strange change for you...

It will be a real transformation. I will have to adapt to electric driving because my bearings will be disrupted. I will no longer have a gearbox, and the data on available torque, degree of acceleration and clutch use on ice are changed. This will change my approach. I would even say that the drivers who already drove on electric last year, Franck Lagorce, Aurélien Panis and Nicolas Cheers, will have an advantage during the first races.

How is Renault’s support structured?

Renault is providing the Zoé's numerical dimensions – so that the shell of the racing vehicle is reminiscent of the city car – as well as financial support over three years. However, it would be a trap to change the way we do things or to put more pressure on ourselves. It’s an undisguised pleasure.

As a gas car enthusiast, how did you change your mind about electric?

This is not a problem of change of opinion. It's about adapting to the environment in which we operate. There Formula E is not new and the appearance of the first electric motor at the Andros Trophy dates back around ten years, via the Andros Car. The end of the thermal dinosaurs at the Andros Trophy is a difficult decision due to the cost of an electric package. It would have been complicated for us without the help of Renault.

At what stage of car development are you?

The team of technicians is currently working on the chassis. The project has been launched for a few weeks, even a few months. There are no holidays at the moment!
