The second edition of the FIA Motorsport Games postponed to 2022

The COVID-19 epidemic continues to cause the cancellation of several events in motorsport. The FIA and the SRO Motorsports Group have in fact decided that the second edition of the FIA Motorsport Games will be postponed to 2022. This is due to health restrictions which would lead to a reduction in the number of participants in 2021, “which goes against the universal spirit in which the FIA Motorsport Games were established”. The Paul Ricard circuit remains the host site for the event, assure the organizers.

“The opportunity to bring together competitors from around the world is an essential component of the FIA Motorsports Games, says Stéphane Ratel, founder and CEO of SRO Motorsports Group. As this will not be feasible in 2021, I think rescheduling this event for next year is a good thing. Although disappointing, this decision demonstrates our commitment to delivering a truly global event that does justice to the philosophy of the FIA Motorsports Games.”

On the program, 18 events were planned for this second edition, with the addition of the GT Sprint category dedicated to professional drivers. This is 12 more than in 2019, the year of the first edition of the Motorsports Games which were organized on the Vallelunga circuit.

“This postponement is an inevitable decision given the difficulties that the world is still experiencing in terms of travel, specifies Jean Todt, President of the FIA. The FIA Motorsport Games are an exceptional opportunity for the entire motorsport family to come together, unite and share this incredible passion that we all have for this sport and we are already looking forward to welcoming the ASNs and teams back in 2022 .”

In return, the organizers are currently mobilizing the ASNs (National Sports Authorities) for the creation of a digital event on the date initially planned for the games, namely from October 30 to 31.
