Peter Auto's 2020 season launched at Dix Mille Tours

We had to wait until July 24 for the 2020 season of events organized by Peter Auto to be launched. But it was worth the wait! The Dix Mille Tours, held on the Circuit Paul-Ricard, welcome the crème de la crème of GTs, Protos and touring cars from the 1950s to 2000.

One of the attractions of the meeting is the participation of Gérard Larrousse sur une Porsche 917 LH from 1970 in the Classic class Endurance Racing 1. The double winner of 24 Hours of Le Mans (1973, 1974), good foot and good eye at 80 years old, achieved the 11th time in private tests in the company of the Brazilian owner of the machine, Massimo Pedrazzi.

This example of Porsche 917 underwent a complete restoration in 2017 and was presented to the public for the first time at the Rétromobile show last February. This is therefore the first outing on the circuit for this model.

For once, the Peter Auto series welcome single-seaters. The Éric Offenstadt Cup, named after a former hope for speed on two and four wheels, brings together Formula 3 and Formula Junior of the 1960s. This field, managed by the British, occasionally joins the Peter Auto meetings.

Qualifying took place this Friday. Prestige enthusiasts will note that the Jaguar Type E 3.8L Lightweight from the Halusa family (Lukas and Niklas) took pole position by two tenths ahead of Dirk and Leon Ebeling (Bizzarrini 5300 GT).

Of the 350 cars present in the Var, one of the most distinctive is the Ferrari 333 SP. The prototype, dressed all in yellow, is equipped with a V12 engine from the legendary 641 Ferrari 1990. F1 developing around 650 horsepower.

His times were as remarkable as his sound with the pole won in Endurance Racing Legends in the hands of Raymond Narac, ahead of a hell of a beast, a 8 Bentley Speed 2003 driven by Shaun Lynn, Alex Lynn's father.

In Group C, the Toyota 92CV that we highlighted in issue n°2271 of AUTOhebdo, driven by Éric Hélary, completed four short laps before remaining locked in his pit box due to a mechanical breakdown. Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), was even less lucky: the engine of the Chevron B19 died in the pit lane!

The Ten Thousand Towers are open to the public this week-end. Only access to the final turn grandstand is authorized (free). The paddocks unfortunately remain closed to spectators due to measures against Covid-19.

Passionate about the history of motorsport across all disciplines, I learned to read thanks to AUTOhebdo. At least that's what my parents tell everyone when they see my name inside!
