The Volkswagen ID. R reveals itself in its “Nürburgring” version

From Pikes Peak to the Nürburgring, the prototype Volkswagen ID. R, 100% electric, will have tackled two myths of world motorsport.

Holder of the record for the American climb, the German brand will try to set the lap record for an electric model of the Nordschleife at the Nürburgring, with Romain Dumas, a great circuit specialist, as driver requisitioned for the occasion.

A few hours before the first full-scale test in the Green Hell, scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday April 25, Volkswagen officially unveiled its 500 kW strong prototype (a little over 670 hp) and already seen several times in tests, more particularly these last days with highlighting the DRS system.

“On the Nordschleife, the ID. R will reach an average speed of over 180 km/h, with a maximum straight line speed of up to 270 km/h, recalls François-Xavier Demaison, technical director of Volkswagen Motorsport.

We have therefore developed a completely new aerodynamic package with a DRS, from the Formula 1, and optimized energy management, which controls the power of the two electric motors and energy recovery when braking. »
