Lagorce: the strength is with Skoda

Franck Lagorce, unhappy during the first weekend in Val Thorens, made up for it nicely in Andorra. Fastest driver in the two qualifying rounds of the second Andorran race, the former driver of F1 then won the final, scoring a maximum of 80 points, as Bertrand Balas, Alain Prost and Jean-Philippe Dayraut.

“The championship is going to be very long: 4 races, 4 different winners,” notes Franck Lagorce for AUTOhebdo.fr. We knew this car had potential. Olivier (Panis) is very fast, Jacques (Villeneuve) contributed to this victory and it is me who reaps the rewards. We have great cohesion in this team with great respect and a lot of friendship. For me, that's a victory, it's teamwork and I only completed the work this weekend. »

The Skoda driver recognizes that this team spirit is the main strength of the reigning champion team. ?I think our great strength is team cohesion. When you're all alone in a team and in your car, you don't have any exchange of information. On the other hand, for us, it?s truly a team victory. There is a lot of respect between us, even if I was not Formula 1 World Champion, and I only did two Grands Prix; Olivier, Jacques and I have all had different careers but there is enormous respect between us. We really share these moments and, in motorsport, these moments are rare. »

In addition, on a sporting level, Franck Lagorce tells us that he sees Skoda with a slight advantage over other competitors. “I think if I wasn't at Skoda this year I would be worried. This is not pretension; it's just that, on paper, when it works, we are ahead. We were present in Val Thorens but we had bad luck, we broke twice. Here, we also showed that we were there. »

The third meeting of Andros Trophy will take place next weekend in Alpe d?Huez. “It’s a very technical circuit, the most technically difficult,” Franck Lagorce explains to us. Experienced drivers should make the difference. But Andros is a permanent questioning. We can often tell ourselves that we are not good and we have to question ourselves at every turn, looking for solutions. Only in Andros do we think like that. There is no other discipline that allows such questioning. »
