Sebastian Vettel invests in sailing. The four-time world champion Formula 1 (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013) joined forces with entrepreneur Thomas Riedel (president of the communications company that bears his name) to create the German SailGP team (international crewed sailing competition). Double bronze medalist at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Erik Heil will pilot the German F50 catamaran from the United States Grand Prix, organized on June 16 and 17 in Chicago.

« I see a lot of potential as SailGP enters its fourth season and for the first time with a German team, explains Sebastian Vettel. The parallels between sailors and Formula 1 have existed for a long time. The boats are fascinating and the speeds on the water are incredibly high. The races are exciting and I am happy to be close to them with a group of motivated young sailors. In addition, the series not only uses wind energy, but also strives to set new standards for sustainability in sports. » The former driver will play an active role in the management of the team.
