The Dakar remains in South America

Some wanted to see the Dakar return to its first love, namely to return to Africa. But like the last two years, the event will take place in South America from January 1st to 16th, in particular because of impressive popular enthusiasm.

« It?s a dream come true for Argentina to be able to count on the Dakar again, says Enrique Meyer, the Argentine Secretary of State for Tourism. For these two years, in addition to sporting competition, we have shown the whole world, in more than 190 countries, our landscapes and our people. It is a source of pride for our country to once again host the Dakar and we have worked hard for this. »

For Ruiz Tagle, happiness is amplified by the fact that his country is currently going through a difficult time.

“It is an honor for Chile to confirm the organization of the Dakar 2011 on our territory, explains Chile’s new sports minister. We are convinced of what this celebration of world sport represents for the dissemination of images of our sites, unique in the world. We want to highlight the importance of this event at a time when our country is suffering the consequences of a devastating earthquake. This Dakar will help us move forward and demonstrate that Chile is capable of overcoming this adversity. »

Registrations will begin on May 15, and the detailed route and new sporting features will be revealed in Paris on April 29.
