He needed to ensure victory at Chamrousse to win his fifth French Champion title and he did it. For the 11th round of the season, Lionel Régal left little room for suspense. Best time and record for the climb from the first attempts towards Roche Béranger, Régal relegated his closest competitors, Petit and Schatz to more than three seconds.
On Sunday, the Lentilly driver was the last to set off from Uriage. And the latter strikes a big blow from the start by once again improving the track record in 2:05.690. Behind Petit and Schatz follow almost two seconds behind. The other two climbs will not allow Régal to improve his time despite a final attempt on the 3rd climb. Unfortunately this ends with a straight line, which forces the driver to finish in slow motion.
Benefiting from his morning climb, the Lyonnais sealed his victory and secured the 2009 title. Behind, Petit took second place ahead of Schatz and Baudin.
