World RX will return to Montalegre in 2020

The World Championship rallycross (World RX) will perform again in 2020 on the windy hill of Montalegre (Portugal). The 1,05 km circuit, which served as the launch for the very first round of World RX in 2014, will feature on the 2020 calendar.

Announced by those responsible for the Montalegre International Circuit on Friday October 23, this return comes after an absence of one season. This sudden eviction caused incomprehension and then anger among Portuguese leaders at the time, going even threatening legal action against World RX for non-compliance with contract.

Since then, things have calmed down. “The decision to suspend the event with the Chamber of Montalegre resulted in a big step backwards for the entire region, explains the mayor of the town of 30 inhabitants, Orlando Alves.

Fortunately, the recognition of our cause, our ability to organize an event and the quality of the track speak for themselves. The result is there. An agreement was reached for one year of contract with a renewal if both parties are receptive. »

Montalegre joins, pending confirmation of the full schedule in the coming weeks, South Africa (with Cape Town) and Belgium (with Spa).
