Morocco – Al-Attiyah assures, Sainz gives up

Le Rally of Morocco 2018 does not seem to escape Nasser Al-Attiyah and Mathieu Baumel (Toyota). Winners of the prologue as well as the first two stages, the Franco-Qatari pair managed their lead on Sunday during the third day of the event.

Around a loop near Erfoud, Al-Attiyah-Baumel dropped 3’20” to Jakub Przygonski and Tom Colsoul (Mini). On their reliable 4x4 managed by the X-Raid team, the 2018 Cross-Country Rally World Cup champions moved back into second place, still more than 13 minutes behind the leaders.

Saturday was marked byabandonment of Carlos Sainz aboard his Mini buggy. The Spaniard, in difficulty with his gearbox on Saturday, gave up again on Sunday again due to a defective gearbox. Bad inaugural race for the outgoing winner of the Dakar with X-Raid!

Third place in the general classification is the subject of a fight between Martin Prokop on his Ford Raptor and Cyril Despres with his Mini buggy. The Frenchman, now sailed by Jean-Paul Cottret, temporarily gave up this position for around thirty seconds.

The fourth stage takes place on Monday afternoon, still around Erfoud over a 294 km special.
