Everything started well at Mont-Dore, which welcomed the usual leaders of the French Mountain Championship, Lionel Régal, Nicolas Schatz, Fabien Petit, but also the Italians Simone Faggioli and David Baldi, on Osella FA 30 free formulas. Saturday's first tests showed that the duel was going to be close and that victory would be difficult for Régal. During the two test climbs, Faggioli was ahead of Régal, but the Isérois did not lose hope, not being so far behind.
It was with great motivation that Lionel Régal attacked the first climb of the race on Sunday. But, in the rain, it was Sébastien Petit who stood out, ahead of the two favorites. Francis Dosières and Dan Bourgeon, both BMW 320 ST drivers, in the closed car category, even made it into the Top 5 thanks to the weather conditions.
The second climb of the afternoon would provide an even more astonishing verdict. After most of the cars had passed, a big off-track from Fabien Frantz stopped the four fastest drivers of the morning on the grid. After another downpour, these four protagonists could no longer hope to achieve competitive times against their predecessors, who had found the track dry.
The third climb having been cancelled, victory therefore went to David Baldi (Osella FA 30), the fastest during the second climb. The podium delivered an unusual verdict with second place for Alban Thomas (Lola B99/50), Billy Ritchen (Lola B 99/50) taking third place, ahead of Cyrille Frantz (Norma M 20). Ultimately, the duel between Lionel Régal and Simone Faggioli lasted only a short time.
In touring cars, Dan Bourgeon was able to dominate Francis Dosières in the rain, while Puigrenier and Werver experienced problems on a dry track.
