Newey partners with Vergne to create Extreme E team

The Extreme E SUV championship is on the rise. Unveiled at the start of 2019, the competition which will take place on desert terrain in 2021 has attracted two renowned names in motorsport: Adrian Newey and Jean-Éric Vergne.

If the Frenchman, double champion coming out of Formula E, is an expert in electrical technology, the British engineer is launching into a new universe. The two men are joining forces within a new team, Veloce Racing, which will be responsible for entering one or more e-SUVs.

“This series is an exceptional platform to draw attention to the planet’s climate challenges, explains Adrian Newey, designated a “Visionary” according to the pompous official phrase. Jean-Éric Vergne, one of the five co-founders of the team (along with English entrepreneurs) wants to be “disruptive in (his) approach to raising awareness of climate change”.
