Niclas Grönholm takes charge in Canada

Niclas Grönholm (GRX – Hyundai) pointe en tête de l’épreuve de Trois-Rivières au Canada en World RX après les deux premières manches qualificatives disputées ce samedi.

After a Q1 contested on a dry track and won by Andreas Bakkerud (Monster Energy RX Cartel – Audi S1), a downpour slightly changed the track conditions, but not enough to disturb the son of the double world champion WRC, author of the best cumulative time in Q2 in 3'25″487.

Grönholm precedes Guerlain Chicherit and Rokas Baciuska (GC Compétition – Renault Megane RS RX) at the end of Q2 when Timo Scheider (Münnich Motorsport – Seat Ibiza) and Janis Baumanis (STARD – Ford Fiesta) complete the top 5.

Overall, Grönhom is ahead of Bakkerud and Chicherit, Anton Marklund (CG Kompetition – Renault Megane RS RX) and Timur Timerzyanov (GRX) enter the top 5 after Q1 and Q2.

Championship leader, Kevin Hansen (Team Hansen – Peugeot 208) had only taken tenth place in Q1 before being penalized 5″ on his race time for exceeding the track limits in Q2.

Enough to push the youngest Hansen into twelfth position, in the immediate wake of his brother Timmy. Cyril Raymond (GC Acadely – Renault Clio RS RX) is on the edge of the top 12 in 13th position.

The last two qualifying rounds, the semi-finals and the final in Trois-Rivières will take place tomorrow in Canada.
