Peterhansel wins a 14th Dakar and becomes a little more legendary

Alone in the world. Author of a 43rd edition of the Dakar that could not have been more controlled, Stéphane Peterhansel will leave Saudi Arabia this weekend with a 14th title, the 8th in the car, in his suitcases.

Consistent throughout the fortnight, the Habs were able to avoid the pitfalls of the Saudi desert to keep their rivals at bay. If he showed himself to be the toughest on the field this year, as evidenced by his five stage victories, Nasser Al-Attiyah was unable to do anything against the regularity of Stéphane Peterhansel and his Mini buggy, also luckier than the Qatari on technical problems.

This 14th Dakar, Stéphane Peterhansel, obviously helped by his navigator Édouard Boulanger, practically gave it to himself during the 9nd stage. That day, the Haut-Saônois struck a major blow by distancing Al-Attiyah-Baumel by more than 17 minutes overall.

From then on, the record holder for victories only had to ensure in this last week of racing to head straight towards the final coronation. Done. Thirty years after his first title, Stéphane Peterhansel won a 14th Dakar, the 8th in a car, further consolidating his place in the pantheon of rally-raid and motorsport. Monsieur Dakar lives up to his name better than ever.

Today's stage goes to the duo Carlos Sainz-Lucas Cruz (Mini) who completed this 43rd Dakar on the third step of the podium behind Nasser Al-Attiyah. Stéphane Peterhansel crossed the finish line in Jeddah in 3rd place, almost three minutes behind his Spanish counterpart.
