Peterhansel takes 2nd place from Loeb, hampered by electrical problems

Since the start of this Dakar 2019, Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota) seems to be the only favorite spared from major mechanical problems or silting in large areas.

Proof of this is this Monday where the Qatari, solid leader of the general classification this morning, with more than 35′ ahead of Sébastien Loeb (Peugeot ), did not take any risks, finishing the stage around San Juan de Marcona (323 km against the clock) in 4th place, almost 12′ from the winner Stéphane Peterhansel (Mini).

The latter made up for his crash the day before, when he wanted to come to the aid of Nani Roma (Mini), highlighting a “stupid mistake”. The record holder for victories took the opportunity to reduce the gap on Al-Attiyah overall, but while remaining at a respectable distance (29′).

Peterhansel, however, takes second place from Sébastien Loeb who, this time, has undoubtedly left his last illusions of an improbable comeback on Al-Attiyah for the final victory. The Frenchman was stopped in his tracks from the first kilometers of the stage, victim of an electrical failure on his 3008 DKR.

Passé avec près de 40′ de retard au WP1, Loeb a cravaché sur le reste de l’étape pour échouer avec 28’27 » de retard sur Peterhansel. De quoi rejeter le pilote Hyundai en WRC in fourth position overall at 54′.

Solid second of the day behind Peterhansel, and ahead Carlos Sainz (Mini), Nani Roma takes the opportunity to get back on the provisional podium of the 2019 Dakar, 37′ from Al-Attiyah, a real quiet force of the event so far.
