There will be lots of people in Colorado Springs in 2021. For the 99th edition of Pikes Peak, no less than 76 pilots, from nine different countries, will attack the almost 20 kilometers of road of one of the largest hillclimb races in the world.
From the top of his three titles and seven category victories, Paul Dallenbach will be present in the American West this year just like Robin Shute, winner in 2019 and absent in 2020 due to the pandemic.
On the French side, three French people will be at the start: Grégoire Blachon on a Beetle 2021 Proto, Raphaël Astier on a Porsche BBI Turbo Cup and Laurent Millara on a 911 Porsche 3 GT2008.
Former astrophysics teacher and now pilot, Kathryn Mead returns to Pikes Peak after a first participation in 2020. She will be entered in the Porsche Pikes Peak Trophy by Yokohama. Six more competitors are expected in the division.
“Green” will also be in the spotlight of this 99th edition with two Tesla Model 3s and a GLM ZZ, an electric car driven by the Japanese Fumio Nutahara.
Seventeen drivers are also expected to make their Pikes Peaks debut. A number which could increase in the near future since some names have not yet been confirmed.
The 99th edition of Pikes Peak is scheduled for June 27. Little more, the arrival of spectators is authorized.
