Prost: “A margin for improvement”

Alain Prost, third in race 1 and race 2 of Alpe d?Huez, leaves Isère with 147 points, ten less than Jean-Philippe Dayraut, leader of the general classification of Andros Trophy. After having resisted well despite his ballast on Friday, the ?Professor? did not fully benefit from his weight reduction on Saturday (ballast of 20 kg, compared to 40 kg at Dayraut), being beaten by the Skoda driver in the qualifying heats then in the final.

After saving his tires during the first qualifying round, Alain Prost focused his efforts on the second session. After a very good start, the Dacia driver was less consistent than Jean-Philippe Dayraut, better over all four laps. “ We still lack consistency over four fast laps, confirms Prost. We will try to take advantage of the break to work on this point, with new technical developments planned from Isola 2000. Dacia Duster is a completely new car, there is still significant room for improvement. »

Second in the second qualifying round but third overall over the two sessions (Jean-Baptiste Dubourg having been the fastest in the first round), the four-time world champion found himself in the final with his biggest rival. Starting second, he quickly got away from Jean-Philippe Dayraut, before having to resist Franck Lagorce to protect his position. Second in the final, the ?Professor? finished third overall for the day.

Despite a weekend which allows Dayraut to benefit from a good lead overall, Alain Prost is neither disappointed nor pessimistic. “ We have gathered a lot of information during these first three meetings of the season. We know in which direction to work and we know what points we need to improve. We leave with 12 units from Jean-Philippe Dayraut. Our ambitions are always very high. There are still eight races to go, we have time to catch up »

Next meeting at Isola 2000 on Friday January 8 and Saturday January 9, 2010.
