Rallycross France – Ready for the restart

Finally, AFOR (French Association of Organizers of Rallycross) sees the end of the tunnel. After many postponements, the authorities finally managed to get the series back on track.

« We will finally resume, exclaims Jean-Jacques Bénézet, recently re-elected as head of AFOR. It was very long. I hope that the resumption will take place in good conditions after a year and a half without racing apart from the private Essay event. (in October 2020. Editor’s note.). This last month and a half has served us to put everything in place to get the machine back on track. It wasn't easy. But everything is improving, there are fewer and fewer sick people so that's positive »

A highly anticipated recovery by both drivers and fans, who will unfortunately not be accepted in the stands at Châteauroux this weekend. “ We bet on a closed session because Daniel Bonnier (the organizer of the Castelroussine round. Editor’s note) didn’t want to take any risks, explains Jean-Jacques Bénézet. It's a little early to welcome the public, whose return is planned to Essay, where a capacity of 5000 people will be applied."

At Châteauroux, scene of the first round of the season, 102 cars are expected: 17 in Supercars – with the reigning champion Samuel Peu – but also 13 in Super 1600, 15 in the Junior championship, 26 in Division 3, 16 in Division 4 and 15 in the Women's Cup, one of the great novelties of this campaign.

Fans not forgotten

Due to the health crisis, the organizers of the events will not be able to fill their stands 100%, at least for the moment. To remedy this, AFOR will launch its own online streaming system with more than 15 hours of airtime every weekend.

With this service, spectators who have not had the chance to attend will be able to follow the entire qualifying heats and the final phases of all categories live. The revenue generated by this paid service (two subscriptions available: for the race or for the year) will be entirely redistributed to the organizers, who will have to deal with a considerable shortfall in the event of a closed session or an imposed gauge.

Calendar

June 4-6: Châteauroux (Indre); June 19-20: Essay (Orne); July 10-11: Lessay (Manche); July 24-25: Kerlabo (Côtes-d’Armor); September 10-12: Touraine (Indre-et-Loire); September 25-26: Mayenne (Mayenne); October 9-10: Dreux (Eure-et-Loir); October 22-24: Faleyras (Gironde)
