Andreas Bakkerud: “I’m not going to give up”

How did you experience this 2020 season?

She was special. While we were preparing it, everything was ready and reviewed with the FIA, the health crisis began. We didn't know what we were getting into at the time. We thought it was a virus that we would get rid of in just a few weeks before resuming the season. Then we started to see races being postponed or canceled one after the other. It was a tricky start to the campaign.

Especially since you are starting a new adventure…

Yes, I was entered with a new team (GCK RX Cartel. Ed.), driving a new car. We weren't able to do a lot of testing due to the pandemic. It was also difficult with the sponsors, also affected by the crisis. Managing all these constraints while concentrating on the races was not an easy mission. The 2020 season was undoubtedly one of the hardest I have experienced.

Does this explain the difficulties encountered at the start of the season?

To be honest, I felt we had very good top speed. On the other hand, we experienced technical problems until Barcelona (last round of 2020. Editor's note), with the shock absorbers in particular. When we realized it, we made changes and in Barcelona everything suddenly went well, with pole in the second final. It was good, but needless to say I would have preferred to have had better results earlier in the season.
