Audi Sport renounces World RX in 2019

On Wednesday morning, Audi Sport announced its two official motorsport programs for 2019: Formula e as well as the DTM (on the condition that a third manufacturer commits). In fact, this excludes the World Championship of rallycross (World RX) disciplines financially supported by the Rings brand.

In accordance with whatCARhebdo announces you in its n°2180 (available in digital version as well as at kiosks), Audi will end its support for the EKS structure at the end of 2018. Founded privately by Mattias Ekström (double champion DTM with Audi) in 2014, the Swedish team formed a partnership with Audi in 2017 to develop the S1 Quattro.

This withdrawal also has consequences for the future electric category in World RX, which requires a minimum of four builders to launch finally by 2021. However, without Audi, there would only be Peugeot and Volkswagen, another entity of the VW group and which should keep its place in Rallycross thanks to its domination with the PSRX VW Sweden team.
