Ken Block opened the list of Project E, 100% electric support series for the World Championship Rallycross World RX, in Sweden last July, with three Ford Fiesta ERXs at the start of this inaugural round.
The peloton will be reinforced by two new cars during the second round in Riga, Latvia (September 19-20). Frenchman Cyril Raymond will debut the all-new Citroën C3 ERX, with the support of Citroën Racing. The 2 and 2016 RX2017 champion also hopes to revive his career with this new project.
“I have made a name for myself in the one-make classes, being a two-time RX2 Champion, and I truly believe that the Projekt E format suits my style perfectly, admits Raymond.
I am confident that electric rallycross will not only provide me with the opportunities I need to continue in the sport, but will allow drivers to make a career in this discipline perfectly suited to demonstrating the incredible capabilities of electric technology.
Citroën has an incredible history in global motorsport and it is an honor to give the new Citroën C3 ERX its first competitive outing. »
The Frenchman will also be joined by Janis Baumanis, initially expected in an Audi S1 – Team JC in Supercar, but who will redirect his commitment to electric vehicles with a Ford Fiesta ERX. “I know STARD has developed the car a lot since I drove the prototype a year ago and I can't wait to get in the car and try it again, adds Baumanis.
Obviously, it's a bit sad not to be able to participate in the World Championship this year but I think everyone understands the situation at the moment and that it is not always possible to follow our plans. »
