EKS confirms its absence in 2019

EKS finally confirmed its withdrawal from World RX in a video where boss-driver Mattias Ekström appears to bid farewell to the discipline. The 2018 runner-up had previously announced that he would not return to the World Championship next year, with the Swede no longer benefiting from the support of Audi Sport.

“After 5 seasons where we enjoyed great support, we have decided to take a break and we will not be on the grid for the 2019 season, announced the ten-time world winner during the awards ceremony at the FIA Gala organized last Friday in Saint Petersburg (Russia).

My dream when founding this structure in 2014 was to bring together the best, both in terms of drivers, the brand represented or the partners, without obviously forgetting the car. At the end of these 5 years, we can say that it was a success. We have welcomed many very talented drivers to our team.

I would like to warmly thank the promoter IMG, the FIA, the event promoters, the commissioners and especially my opponents without whom the adventure would not have been the same. I also have a thought for the staff and the pilots. I'm sorry for Andreas (Bakkerud) who saw his program shorten and lacked a bit of success. Good luck my friend !

We were a private team starting in 2014 but we had the status of an official Audi team in 2017 and 2018. It was a great success for us, especially after a title won (in 2016).

We are now going to sell our cars and we hope that buyers will have as much fun with them as we had. We hope they will achieve more victories. We don't yet know what the future holds, but we hope that our fans will remain loyal if we move into other programs like circuit, e-sport. We will remain different from others. »
