Mattias Ekström failed to prevent Johan Kristoffersson (Volkswagen) to win his 11th victory of the season at the Killarney Raceway in Cape Town (South Africa), but the boss-driver of EKS Audi Sport offered himself the place of vice-champion of the 2018 season by taking the second place ahead of Sébastien Loeb (Peugeot ) finally.
This result was all the more moving for the Swede as he subsequently announced that he would no longer be competing full-time in World RX.
“It's a pretty happy ending considering it was my last race in World RX as a full-time driver. I've had 5 fantastic years as a pilot but I think it's time to close this chapter and aim for new challenges.", confided Mattias Ekström.
This announcement sows a little more doubt about the future of EKS which will no longer benefit from the support of Audi next year.
