Ekström remains involved in World RX for Kouvola

Mattias Ekström (Audi S1) definitely seems to have rediscovered his passion for Rallycross. After his successful weekend in Höljes within the KYB Team JC team, the 2016 world champion will continue to have fun by participating in the two upcoming events which will take place in Kouvola, Finland (August 29-30)

Joel Christoffersson, KYB boss, speaks about Ekström's surprise continuation in the championship. “ The initial idea was that Mattias would only do the rounds at Holjes but we now have the opportunity to continue our cooperation also in Finland. Mattias is very important for the team and knowing that he will ride for us in the next two rounds is really satisfying, both for Robin (Larsson, his teammate) as for the whole team.

We go to Finland with a victory and a second place in our pocket and we have a comfortable lead in the championship. We will continue to fight for the drivers' and constructors' championships. »

Mattias Ekström shares his boss's enthusiasm. “I’m excited to drive for KYB Team JC again in Finland. I've never raced there so I don't know what to expect from the track. I hope to have another fantastic weekend with the team and we will head to Finland with the same attitude as in Höljes. We will do our best.”

After officially ending his career in 2018, Ekström's return is going smoothly for the moment. The Swede currently occupies second place in the championship, just two points behind the leader and ahead of his teammate Larsson (2019 European vice-champion). Their team is firmly established at the top of the ranking since KYB is 28 points ahead of its closest pursuer.
