Ekström overcomes Kristoffersson at Höljes

The World Championship rallycross (World RX) returns to the past by offering a Johan Kristoffersson-Mattias Ekström poster for victory in 2020. The two Swedes, absent last year, were the most impressive for the second round in Höljes (Sweden).

Beaten on Saturday, Mattias Ekström (Audi) took revenge this Sunday, August 23. Started in the final behind Johan Kristoffersson, the former champion of DTM closed a gap of two seconds on his opponent and overtook him thanks to good management of the joker lap.

Winner the day before for his thunderous return to the World Cup, Johan Kristoffersson (3rd) suffered the wrath of the commissioners. The Swede received a five-second penalty for not respecting track limits, just like Timo Scheider (Audi, 4th).

This benefits Kevin Hansen (Peugeot ), who recorded his first podium in 2020 (2nd). As for the outgoing champion Timmy Hansen (Peugeot), he shattered his hopes of victory against the Renault Andreas Bakkerud's Mégane in the semi-final.

Höljes also hosted the European Rallycross Championship (Euro RX). Author of the best times in qualifying heats on Saturday, Jean-Baptiste Dubourg (Peugeot, 5th) dropped back during the final and left his little brother Andréa Dubourg to defend the interests of DA Racing. He finished second behind Eriksson (Ford).

Finally, the new Projekt E electric series only had three participants, Mads Ostberg having withdrawn due to Citroën still being built. Gymkhana king Ken Block dominated his only two opponents, Hermann Neubauer and Natalie Barratt to open the silent chapter of rallycross.
