IMG confirms the integration of Projekt E into World RX in 2020

The last FIA World Council placed electric powertrains at the center of the future of Rallycross World. The international federation had in fact confirmed the arrival for 2021 a 100% electric kit (motor and battery) to be able to benefit from grids mixing electric and thermal cars for at least one year.

As a prelude to this mix expected in two years, IMG, promoter of the World Championship, will place its trust in 2020 in the work of the Austrian entity of Manfred Stohl STARD, which recently unveiled its Projekt E.

Presented on a Ford Fiesta Supercar base, the project has at its heart a powertrain called REVelution, developing 612 hp, and which will also be adaptable to any body of a B segment car.

A main kit that includes the electric motors and associated controllers, transmission, energy storage system, complete electronics package, harness and charging system.

The Projekt E cars will be used in a development series on the sidelines of certain European World RX events next year, to better understand the more in-depth transition hoped for in 2021. Testing will begin next month, before a more complete presentation of the car in September.

“We have been working with STARD on the electrification of world rallycross for several months, explains Torben Olsen, general manager of World RX for IMG. We have now taken an important step in the development of electric solutions for rallycross and in particular Projekt E.”

A sort of dubbing for STARD, which has long been committed to the electric path in rallycross, and which therefore finds great validation for all of its work.
