Kristoffersson (again) winner of the Gymkhana GRiD

Who can stop him in this year 2018? Outright winner of the World Rallycross Championship (World RX) for the second consecutive time (11 victories in 12 rounds), Johan Kristoffersson played overtime in South Africa by taking part in the Gymkhana GRiD in Johannesburg on Saturday. As you can imagine, the Swede left with the winner's trophy.

The Gymkhana GRiD is a discipline made popular by Ken Block's YouTube videos. The competition consists of lining up two cars on a single course requiring skidding and 360°. In short, the equivalent of the Race of Champions, but with more smoke!

The PSRX Volkswagen Team Sweden driver took part with his Volkswagen Polo R WRX, and reunited with his dear teammate Petter Solberg finally. “I am totally thrilled by this success! During the race against Petter, my mouth was dry because I quickly realized that he was going to have a great time, explained the winner.

It's a pretty emotional moment, it was my last outing with my car this year. I call her Wilma, and I think she's the best in the world. Two world titles rallycross and two Gymkhana GRiDs, what more could you ask for? »

The third step of the podium went to Oliver solberg, the young son (17 years old) of the champion WRC 2003. “It wasn’t easy; I feared that my car would break before the small final”, explains the Norwegian, who for the occasion drove a Citroën Xsara belonging to his father.

He did not hide his pride. “I think it was quite a test for him. Attack despite worries, mentally start from scratch before each run to stay in the flow, etc. His driving was very impressive, he did a fantastic job motivating his team. »

On the sidelines of the event, the organizers announced that Gymkhana GRiD 2019 will perform in Europe, without revealing the precise date or location.
