COTA disappears from the 2019 calendar

Unveiled at the end of last October with 11 rounds on the program, the World RX calendar will ultimately only feature ten events next year, with the disappearance of Austin in Texas, a race contested on the Circuit of the Americas, where the F1.

“After consulting the FIA and our teams, we have decided to reduce the number of events on our 2019 calendar, comments Paul Bellamy, in charge of World RX at IMG.

This decision was made to help control costs for the teams and ensure the series remains as competitive as possible. We remain very excited about the 2019 season with ten high-profile events. »

An event will indeed be organized in Austin next year, but counting towards the American championship Rallycross Championship. The teams entered in World RX are invited to take part in this meeting, which will therefore not offer points for the world rankings. A return to Texas remains in the pipeline for 2021.

This decision further underlines the current difficulties of the championship, hit hard by the cessation of programs / support of Peugeot , Olsbergs MSE, and Audi for the next campaign. World RX had already confirmed earlier in the year the postponement of the arrival of electric cars from 2020 to 2021.

This announcement comes as the World Motor Sport Council met today and should therefore logically ratify this change in calendar.
