The new World RX plan for electric

Despite the disaster of the E-WRX project which caused the departure of all the manufacturers, the organizers of the World RX have developed a new strategy to place the electric in Rallycross.

The FIA World Council has announced that the organizers are now aiming for a mixed grid mixing electric and thermal in 2021. Asked by AUTOhebdo about this possibility when the E-WRX was still in the boxes, the organizers had nevertheless indicated that a grid mixed would not be viable due to the difference in performance between the two technologies.

Still, a common kit with transmission and battery is planned for an approval period of 4 years with two engines per car capable of developing between 450 and 500kW. Better yet, a kit will be available to install electric motors on current Supercars!

The world of Rallycross does not stop there as a Junior eRX championship will be launched. Three tenders will be launched to provide kits for the current Supercars, Junior eRX cars and infrastructure for both series.

IMG had already bounced back after the failure of the E-WRX by presenting Project E which was to offer a support category to World Rallycross meetings in 2020.
