World Rallycross RX expects even more drivers

Le Rallycross becomes a world-class Championship since the FIA gave its approval. The effect on the discipline was instantaneous with an unprecedented media impact and the arrival of new drivers on the grids. “We expected to achieve FIA World Championship status in 2015, but we were struck by the support of the European category and so we decided to move things forward a year”, explains Martin Anayi, manager of IMG Motorsports (promoter of the Championship). “As owners of the commercial rights to the Championship, we were in a good position to benefit from the growing popularity and the FIA has fortunately recognized our progress. We know the future of World Rallycross RX is huge. »

The success of this discipline is partly based on a test format that is particularly well suited to new media. The Championship indeed offers many races of short duration, with spectacular fights often providing impressive images. “Rallycross is completely different from other disciplines. It offers a mix of the best elements that motorsport has to offer: it's a frenzied race from the lights out, the drivers take turns like they're behind the wheel of a drift car and they do jumps like in rally. Spectators will love it. A Supercar is made on the basis of a passenger car, but it has incredible power with 600hp and needs less than two seconds to go from 0 to 100km/h. The technology is simple but very effective. The discipline is very welcoming and the format of semi-finals and finals creates magnificent tension on the track. The discipline is thus perfect for spectators but also for television. »

With Rallycross RX now at the forefront, the discipline is seeing several drivers arrive. Among the newcomers, Jacques Villeneuve generated the greatest media impact. “The variety of drivers, the support of the manufacturers and the numerous teams will provide a competitive season”, assures Martin Anayi. “We have drivers who have won championships in F1, riding a WRC, riding a DTM and Drift, but I'm sure some of our drivers will make life difficult for them. It's fantastic that our drivers can compete against legendary names in motorsport like Villeneuve. It will offer very close races. We still have drivers to announce and we are also expecting several wildcards in certain events this season. »
