World RX will head to Kouvola in 2020

As we previously announced to you in AUTOhebdo, the Lohéac meeting (Ille-et-Vilaine) was to be replaced by IMG, the promoter of World RX

The FIA World Council which was held this Friday confirmed a new meeting to offer a calendar of 8 meetings. The world championship Rallycross will visit Finland for the first time since 2014 at the Kouvola circuit. This new event will be the second round of the season, being contested on August 29 and 30, one week after the launch of the season in Höljes (Sweden) and three weeks before the trip to Bikernieki (Latvia).

Lohéac is expected to host World RX again in 2021, benefiting from its current contract with IMG. The organizers of the Breton round were nevertheless unable to organize this year's edition due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the risk of a compulsory closed session.

The Euro RX will have a reduced calendar of only 3 meetings, whether for the Supercar category or for the S1600s. However, the trips will be different. The premier category will travel to Höljes, Bikernieki and Spa-Francorchamps, while the S1600 will travel to Kouvola, Montalegre and Barcelona. The FIA specified that the S1600 control unit would be extended for two years in the European Championship to avoid the implementation of driver aids such as traction control. The GEMS unit is currently in use since 2018.
