Montalegre ready to sue IMG

Despite the success of the Montalegre meeting, the organizers of the World RX decided to remove the Portuguese round from the 2019 season calendar. However, the promoters of the meeting had a contract extended last year until 2023. The latter did not therefore do not accept the choice of IMG, the company in charge of promoting the world championship of Rallycross, after learning of this decision by email just a few hours before the publication of the calendar.

“We want to be put back on the World RX calendar. We have a contract signed with IMG and we want it to be respected... They also congratulated us at the end of the 2018 edition for the work carried out. This attitude is childish”, commented José Alves, a member of the Montalegre organization where the town hall is involved, quoted in the Spanish newspaper The region.

However, the promoters had done what was necessary to meet the requirements of the World RX by installing a new coating and in particular by suspending work on the control tower. Montalegre now says he is ready to take IMG to court if discussions do not lead to a favorable change.
