Rallycross – IMG competes with GRC in America

Si the Global Rallycross Championship had to give up Supercars after the multiple departures of manufacturers, the discipline seems far from declining on the New Continent.

World RX promoter IMG has announced the launch of Americas Rallycross (ARX) starting this year. This new series seems to want to recover the place of the GRC since it will offer events in Supercars categories and an ARX2 support series for the Supercar Lites. Cooper Tires will remain the official manufacturer.

“Rallycross is the perfect platform for entertainment as it is experienced today: it is a format in which the races are close, recalls Paul Bellamy, the managing director of IMG. The ARX is a real opportunity to use the experience acquired in World RX to develop the discipline in America. We see great potential with the ARX and we will do our best to make the ARX a major championship in the coming years. »

The ARX will have good promotion since the first round will take place at Silverstone (May 25-27) as part of the Speedmachine Festival, on the sidelines of World RX. The calendar will be completed by Trois-Rivières (August 4-5), Austin (September 29-30), and other World RX rounds. A fourth meeting in the USA is currently under consideration.

IMG's good move is to have welcomed the manufacturers previously present in GRC. Volkswagen will return with Tanner Foust and Scott Speed, while Subaru will hire Patrick Sandell and Chris Atkinson.
