Volkswagen Motorsport seems less present in competition following its withdrawal from WRC end of 2016, but the Wolfsburg brand nevertheless remains involved in motorsport. The German manufacturer celebrated a new record with 15 titles won on the circuit (touring, car, endurance…), rally et rallycross.
Among these trophies collected, the most important are undoubtedly the world titles won by PSRX Team Sweden and Johan Kristoffersson who won seven of the 12 rounds of the Championship at the wheel of the Polo RX built on the WRC chassis. VW shone in the discipline as Scott Speed obtained his third title in a row in Global Rallycross with the Beetle GRC.
Volkswagen also distinguished itself in the TCR International Series with Jean-Karl Vernay winning the title in the Leopard Racing Golf GTI. Team Engstler also secured the Drivers' and Teams' titles in TCR Asia contested in China, Malaysia and Thailand, with a coronation obtained by Kantadhee Kusiri.
Francesco Abreu was responsible for completing the collection in TCR Iberico. VW also obtained the Team titles in TCR Benelux (with WRT), in TCR Middle East (with Liqui Moly Team Engtstler) and in STCC (with Volkswagen Deailleursam Sweden, another name for Kristoffersson Motorsport linked to PSRX in World RX). Lucas Engstler secured the rookie title in TCR Germany…
On the single-seater scene, Volkswagen celebrated the title of Lando Norris en F3 European Championship as well as Daniel Ticktum's victory at the Macau GP.
If Volkswagen is preparing to officially return to rallying with the Polo R5, the German brand was still able to celebrate a coronation in the discipline with the Polo R WRC of Raimund Baumschlager, Austrian rally champion.
