World RX – Ekström ahead of Loeb

Winner in Germany at Hockenheim, Mattias Ekström quickly found the rhythm in Mettet in Belgium for the start of the third round of the World Championship of Rallycross. The Swede placed his EKS RX Audi S1 at the top of the provisional standings thanks to a second place in Q1 and above all a victory in Q2 ahead of Timur Timerzyanov (Ford Fiesta).

Behind the Audi driver, Sébastien Loeb rose to second position with the Peugeot 208 RX from Team Peugeot-Hansen. The Frenchman took his first qualifying heat victory in Q1 before taking seventh place in Q2.

The top 5 of the day is completed by Timerzyanov who is ahead of Johan Kristoffersson (VW Polo RX) and the reigning double world champion Petter Solberg (Citroën DS3). Less success for the Ford Focus RXs of Andreas Bakkerud and Ken Block who encountered problems in Q1 and are at the bottom of the standings. Francis Duval (Ford Fiesta) took ninth position while Davy Jeanney (Peugeot Hansen Academy) ranked 12th at the end of this first day.

In Euro RX, Jérôme Grosset-Janin, winner here in 2015, won both rounds on the program this Saturday at the wheel of his Team Albatec Racing Peugeot 208 RX.
