World RX – Ekström titled in Estering, Eriksson winner

Audi did well to let Mattias Ekström miss the final of the DTM in Hockenheim. The Swede won the World RX title by settling for fifth place in the final. The Scandinavian has already come closer to the coronation by finishing at the top of qualifying and winning his semi-final.

Petter Solberg (DS 3) and Johan Kristoffersson (Volkswagen Polo) still had a chance to maintain their weak title hopes, but the Norwegian lost in the final to Kevin Eriksson (Ford Fiesta) who offered the first victory of the season to the Olsbergs MSE team after making a great start from the second row. As for the Volkswagen RX Sweden driver, he finished last following a left rear puncture.

Andreas Bakkerud (Ford Focus RS) completed the podium ahead of Kevin Hansen (Peugeot ). The Hoonigan Racing driver fought hard until the final as he managed to win his qualifying race in Q4 despite a misaligned rear wheel, but he was transported to the medical center after inhaling fumes during the last event .

The Peugeot drivers were unsuccessful in the semi-final. Davy Jeanney finished 5th in his race behind Janis Baumanis (Fiesta) while Timmy Hansen took 4th place in the other semi-final ahead of Sébastien Loeb.
