World RX – Grönholm RX will enter two Hyundais

Marcus Grönholm a enfin confirmé l’engagement de son équipe en World RX. La Grönholm RX alignera bien deux nouvelles Hyundai i20 Supercars en Championnat du monde de Rallycross.

Niclas Grönholm, 21 years old, son of the double champion of WRC, will continue to defend the interests of his father's structure after playing last year in a Ford Fiesta Supercar. The Finn finished in 16th place in the Championship having narrowly missed the podium in Estering (Germany) last October. He had raced the previous year on a similar car within Olsbergs MSE.

“Everything looks good on paper for the new car and the feedback from the guys at the factory indicates something exciting, comments Niclas Grönholm. I am convinced that it will be competitive. I often had a good pace last year, but I had a problem with starts. We worked on this during the winter in terms of my driving position and the pedals. I drove a lot this winter to address my weak points, for example trying to turn the car better in tight corners. »

Niclas Grönholm will be able to rely on the experience of his new teammate Timur Timerzyanov. The three-time European Rallycross champion has been competing at world level since his debut in 2014. The Russian first competed on a 208 at Peugeot -Hansen before moving to the Ford Fiesta before successively moving to Olsbergs MSE, World RX Team Austria and the Stard team. The Grönholm RX will therefore be his fifth team in as many seasons.

“I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time, perhaps since the end of 2014, confessed the 31-year-old Russian. It's a big step taken for my future, especially on the technical side with the car and the team. I am delighted to work with Niclas who already showed his potential last year. It's also nice to be with Marcus, he really understands me as a driver. He has the same goals as me for this year and knows how to achieve them. »

The GRX team should miss the official tests at Lohéac (Ille-et-Vilaine) held this Wednesday and Thursday to better prepare for the obligatory tests at Silverstone (Great Britain) on March 26 and 27.
