World RX – South Africa on the 2017 calendar

As Paul Bellamy, the director of World RX for IMG, told us in issue 2075 of AUTOhebdo, Africa will be on the program for the World Championship of Rallycross. Killarney circuit in Cape Town will host the World RX final in 2017 after receiving the F1 for a Grand Prix contested outside the Championship in 1960.

The organizers have signed a partnership with the promoters of the South African route for several years. Created in 1947, the circuit will be adapted for Rallycross with work starting in six weeks.

“We have been looking at South Africa as a potential World RX event for a while and we are delighted to be able to make this announcement, commented Paul Bellamy. We are the only FIA World Championship to stage an event in sub-Saharan Africa and the Killarney circuit offers fantastic infrastructure where we can stage a sensational finale. »

“Next year will be the first time that a Rallycross event will be organized on the African continent”, insisted Paul Bellamy.

World RX promoters are also studying trips to Asia and the Middle East in the coming years.
