WorldRX – Mattias Ekström: “Difficult to keep up”

Mattias Ekstrom had a complicated weekend in Trois-Rivières (Canada), unable to reach the final with his Audi S1 Quattro. Third in the championship, Ekström suffered from the domination of the Volkswagens even if he does not definitely think they are invincible.

« Their car has always proven to be unbeatable in the days of WRC, explains the Swede. No one managed to beat them at that time, but we, on the other hand, over the first three races of the year, managed to do so. However, I think that we beat the drivers, the team, more than the car itself. They made several mistakes which cost them dearly. »

Despite dominating the first three events of the season, Ekström did not return to the podium in addition to having missed the Hell round leaving Johan Kristoffersson and Peter Solberg sharing the victories.

« Is this success? I don't know, it's not for me to say. Since Volkswagen started putting everything together, it's very difficult for us to keep up. »

Far from Kristoffersson and Solberg, Ekström also sees Sébastien Loeb come back thanks to his regularity on the podiums with 3 consecutive third places since the Hell round in Norway. Ekström, who once again leads the championship DTM and WorldRX, has decided to give the advantage to the German championship which it is currently in the lead.
