WorldRX – Petter Solberg in Rallycross History

Five thousandths. He will have missed five thousandths of a second to Mattias Ekström and his Audi S1 of the EKS RX to beat Petter Solberg and his Citroën DS3 on the Estering track in Germany. This is the smallest gap recorded in the history of the discipline. An also very important victory for the former 2003 world rally champion, which allows him to have a 52-point lead this morning over Finnish Toomas Heikkinen (Marklund Motorsport) with three races remaining in the championship.

" I do not know what to say, admits Solberg. I don't think I've seen anything this tight in my entire life. The plan for Sunday wasn't necessarily to win at all costs, but when I saw Robin Larsson's mistake I knew I had a chance. Then, in the penultimate lap, I made a mistake, I didn't know if there was one more lap and I hesitated to take the joker lap and lost time. I heard on the radio that I had to go hard until the finish so I really pushed hard. I didn't even know if I had won when I crossed the line, it was a truly incredible moment. »

Solberg will be in action again next weekend in Italy on the FranciaCorta track, to try to get a little closer to a second world title in two disciplines, which would once again bring Hollywood a little closer into the 'History of motorsport.
