The first step of this Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge 2022 was going relatively well for Sébastien Loeb and Fabien Lurquin. Aboard their Prodrive Hunter T1+, the Franco-Belgian duo had a decent day and even stayed less than 2 minutes behind Stéphane Peterhansel and Édouard Boulanger (Audi) until the 159th kilometer Waypoint.
Then began the problems for the last runners-up in the 2022 Dakar. While chasing Stéphane Peterhansel and Édouard Boulanger, Sébastien Loeb and Fabian Lurquin were forced to stop along the way due to mechanical problems with their machine. After a long break, the two men were able to set off again but the damage had already been done and it was 2h23'05 behind the Audi duo that they crossed the finish line.
Sébastien Loeb and Fabien Lurquin returned to the service park, Prodrive revealed the origin of these problems. The English team has indeed indicated that their representatives encountered problems with their driveshaft. “ They changed the components and drove the last 100 kilometers in two-wheel drive, indicated the British structure. The team will repair the car tonight and we will come back stronger and fight for victory in the 2e step tomorrow (Monday). »
