For their first outing aboard the Hunter, the GCK Motorsport crew won the 2022 Morocco Rally in indisputable fashion. Nasser Al-Attiyah and Mathieu Baumel take the lead in W2RC.

When Guerlain Chicherit engages in a sporting project, it is not to make up the numbers. The Savoyard autodidact, who recently passed through Rallycross before diving back into rally-raid in 2021, had announced that he wanted to fight for victory in Rally du Maroc 2022, his first participation with GCK Motorsport and a 4×4 Hunter T1+.

We therefore had to believe the words of the 44-year-old Frenchman! At the end of the five stages imagined by David Castera in the south of the country, Guerlain Chicherit, navigated by Alex Winocq, won, in front of the favorites and the high-sounding names of the rally-raid.

Despite the absence of a stage victory, the French tandem showed itself to be the most consistent of all, notably by avoiding mechanical breakdowns which affected the same English 4×4 of Sébastien Loeb-Fabian Lurquin during Stage 4, or by puncturing tires less often, unlike Nasser Al-Attiyah-Mathieu Baumel in Stage 2.

For the sake of honor, and also in order not to lose too many points with a view to the World Rally Raid Championship (W2RC), Sébastien Loeb worked hard to pocket the 5 points promised to the winner of the special. The Alsatian, however, concedes first place in the W2RC to his rival Nasser Al-Attiyah with only one round remaining, the Andalusia Rally (Spain, October 18-23). The Qatari leaves Morocco with around twenty points margin in the championship.
