Romain Dumas will have gone through all the emotions in this Dakar 2022. First engaged then on foot after the accident of Rebellion Racing team manager Alexandre Pesci and finally survived thanks to the help and kindness of Nasser Al-Attiyah, the Frenchman will have had a lively start to the year.

Saved at the last minute by his friend, he was therefore able to take the start of this Dakar 2022 and with a hell of a machine: Toyota Hilux T1, used by the Qatari in the Cross-Country Rally World Cup in 2021. What a great adventure to consider? Not really.

Despite a sizable car for this 2nd edition of the Dakar in Saudi Arabia, Romain Dumas will not be able to complete his efforts. The winner of 24 Hours of Le Mans with Porsche was in fact forced to retire after the 3rd special. In question ? A problem with his gearbox which had suffered a puncture the day before.

« We encountered a problem with our gearbox during today's special, writes Romain Dumas on Twitter. Obviously we are disappointed but we knew this could happen since the car was to be exhibited at the museum. We were already happy to be able to start this Dakar. » A terrible blow but not really surprising because he did not have spare parts for the Hilux T1 loaned by Nasser Al-Attiyah.
