Sainz stage winner, de Villiers leader in Morocco

This Tuesday's stage at Rally du Maroc n’aura pas été de tout repos pour les favoris, avec deux têtes d’affiche comme principales victimes de la spéciale : Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota) et Stéphane Peterhansel (Mini).

The Qatari, winner of the last Dakar, experienced engine (sensor) problems at kilometer 205 and lost a lot of time. After receiving help from Bernhard Ten Brinke (Toyota), Al-Attiyah finally decided to reach the bivouac by road, and saw his hopes of victory fade away.

No success also for Stéphane Peterhansel, who rolled over at the 293rd km. Monsieur Dakar was able to set off again after a long downtime for repairs, and concluded the stage almost an hour and a half behind the winner of the day. Carlos Sainz.

The Mini driver is ahead of Jakub Przygonski (Mini) this Tuesday by 2'36", the top three being completed by Giniel de Villiers (Toyota) more than 8' behind. Fernando Alonso (Toyota) took 7th place 27′ from Sainz.

But the South African nevertheless took the opportunity to take control of the Rallye du Maroc, with more than 4′ ahead of Carlos Sainz before the final day tomorrow.
